About Flavors Catering

Flavors Catering Managing Director, Russell Bass, has been providing delicious event catering to the East Bay for 30 years via various business initiatives.
 
In 2010, Russell founded Flavors Catering in order to provide special occasion catering to the greater Bay Area within an explicit values-driven framework. Flavors has adopted the motto One Planet, Many Flavors to convey its commitment to ecological, social and economic justice.
 
Flavors Sourcing Practices. We use seasonally available organically grown ingredients and always source with organic poultry, eggs and most dairy, grass-fed beef and lamb, and 100% non-GMO everything.  We also easily and happily accommodate dietary limitations and preferences.
 
This Holiday Party Menu is especially designed for venues with limited or no kitchen access. It has five sections:
 
    • Ready to serve Finger Food Platters for passing or table stations.
    • Deliciously affordable Taco Bar Buffet.
    • Imaginative Holiday Theme Platters.
    • Signature Cachapas de Jojoto (think Latin savory corn blinis) cooked on site on our portable electric mini-grill (we can do quesadillas too).
    • An array of indulgently delicious desserts including Flavors signature Chocolate-Mocha-Kahlua Experience.

Catering charges are priced per event, factoring in the variables of menu selection, service staff and rental wares. We can provide you with an estimate on your initial call. Some thank you notes from appreciative clients are printed below.

Savory Finger Foods

Crab Tostadita – Fresh Dungeness & blue crab mixed with avocado and mango on a crispy wafer, topped with a dollop of zesty crema.

Empanadas – Rich savory pastry variously filled with curried turkey, butternut squash with fresh herbs & goat cheese, BBQ chicken or goat cheese and mint.

Smoked Salmon-Avocado Toast Crostini –  premium lox with fresh dill on a sourdough toasts spread with cream cheese and avocado.

Grilled Prawns – Sustainably sourced prawns cooked to perfection, drizzled with a Latin American style tamarindo or garlic-butter sauce.

Seared Grass-fed Steak – hearts of baby romaine filled with grass-fed beef tossed with scallion, lime, ginger, ground almonds, mild chiles and mint, or with chimichurri sauce.

Yukon Gold, Purple and Red oven-roasted potatoes stuffed with smoked Gouda or aged sharp cheddar, applewood-smoked bacon optional.

Caprese Crostini Classic – Seasonally available fresh tomatoes, fresh, local mozzarella and basil leaf drizzled with virgin olive oil & balsamic vinegar on a sourdough toast.

Roasted Brochettes – Organic chicken, sustainably farmed prawns or sprouted tofu and mushrooms on cocktail size skewers drizzled with Flavors’ zesty Afro-Brazilian vatapa peanut sauce.

Sushi Platters – Flavors partners with the Musashi Sushi of Berkeley for all kinds of made-to-order seafood and veggie sushi rolls.

A Note of thanks for catering a 90th birthday party from the daughter of the honoree, featuring selections from Flavors Finger Foods and Sweets menus.

Festive Colorful Theme Platters

Guacamole,  Assorted Chips and Veggies and Dips featuring a variety of flavorful world salsas and sauces from the mild to the wild.

The Mezze, Mediterranean theme tapas platter with hummus, toasted sesame tahini dipping sauce,  tzaziki,  dolmas, mixed olives,  nuts, roasted peppers and eggplant, Medjool dates and seasonal fruits, flatbread and crackers, with an option of roasted  wings.

The Mexi-Mezze Platter.  Combine your favorites from these two platters to provide a more global culinary experience.

Holiday Taco Bar

 

This delightfully informal approach to lunch or dinner service blends California style taqueria fare with seasonal accents & sustainable sourcing. Flavors provides the options of complete setup  ad with full service added.

Taco Fillings and Wraps

    • Organic chicken, grass fed carne asada and lamb, shrimp or salmon.
    • Organic grilled or stewed seasonal vegetables, grilled sprouted tofu.
    • Organic black or pinto beans, long grain brown or Mexican green rice.
    • Guacamole, choice of cheeses: pepper jack, queso fresco, sharp cheddar, Monterey jack, and/or cotija.
    • Organic corn (gf) and/or flour tortillas.

Salsa Bar and Chips. Choose all you wish and your preferred heat level.

    • Mango-Papaya Rainbow Salsa with colorful chile & bell peppers.
    • Seasonal cranberry-persimmon-pecan chutney style salsa
    • Roasted tomato-chipotle salsa.
    • Char-roasted corn-tomatillo salsa verde.
    • Many choices (and mixes) of organic, non-GMO chips: yellow and blue corn, grain-free, Red-Hot Blues, sweet potato flavored, and more.

Add Flavors Signature Cachapas de Jojoto

We’ll bring a tabletop griddle to make our Latin American corn blinis with savory toppings. (Outlet required, quesadillas are also a griddle option).

There Must Be Sweets

Flavors offers memorable house-made and thoughtfully sourced sweet options.

The Chocolate-Mocha-Kahlua Experience, Our signature exquisitely rich, dark chocolate-coffee infused mousse topped with Kahlua whipped cream and served on a sweet wafer cookie.

Cognac Infused Figs, filled with goat cheese crema & pistachios.

Assorted Artisanal Cookies, Brownie & Cake Squares.

Seasonal Organic Fruit Platter including chocolate dipped strawberries and persimmons.

Alcohol Service

Our staff can mix and serve any client-purchased alcohol drinks to guests of legal drinking age. Flavors carries alcohol service liability insurance.

Custom Menus

Flavors is fluent in many cuisines and can provide custom menus as well as full dinner banquets and table service on request.

A Wedding for a 120 guests at the Berkeley Yacht Club
